Building a Diverse Generation
of Clean Energy Engineers
At CanhLab, the students we teach and mentor are our most lasting contribution. We equip them with a solid foundation in materials science and engineering, along with problem-solving skills and scientific communication — skills that carry over whatever career path they choose. CanhLab also works to bring science closer to students who have not had as much access to it, because a clean-energy future must be built by people from many different backgrounds. (Sample data)
Teaching
Teaching is a cornerstone of how CanhLab trains young scientists. As a teaching assistant at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Vietnam National University, Dr. Vu Minh Canh has taught numerous courses and worked with hundreds of students, helping them build a solid foundation in materials science before stepping into the research lab. These principles extend beyond the group — CanhLab is committed to making science more accessible to every student. (Sample data)

Community Outreach
CanhLab sees science outreach as a core pillar of the group’s work — and of the broader materials and energy field — not something separate from research. Every member of the group takes part in at least one outreach activity each year. (Sample data)
Teaching hands-on energy science sessions for middle and high school students at schools in Can Tho. (sample)
Opening the lab for first-year students to visit and learn about energy materials research. (sample)
Attending materials science conferences and presenting at events for underrepresented students. (sample)
Mentoring summer research interns from partner universities. (sample)
Past Community Outreach Projects
Mini Solar Panel Program for Elementary Students (sample)
Working with local elementary schools, the group developed a hands-on lesson where students assemble a mini solar circuit from low-cost materials, introducing them early to the concept of renewable energy. (Sample data)
Regional Materials & Energy Network — Diversity Coordinator (sample)
CanhLab helped launch a peer network connecting students from universities across the Mekong Delta with mentorship, career talks, and research opportunities in materials and energy science, with a focus on reaching students from under-resourced universities. (Sample data)
Griffith Materials Science Day (sample)
An annual event opening the lab to high school students and the public, showcasing batteries, graphene, and composite materials through hands-on demonstration stations. (Sample data)
